Dancer as Sagi Musume

This piece by Taniguchi Kokyo is titled Dancer as Sagi Musume. It shows a young woman, possibly a young Geisha standing with a shy look, covering most of her face. A Geisha is a woman who performs traditional Japanese art forms for wealthy clientele, and still exist today. This piece had a few different versions made with some using a yellow color on the belt and umbrella, and a light blue on the underside of her dress. This woman, although alone on the print, displays a feeling of flirtation and “cute shyness” with her eyes peeking through the fabric she holds to her face. She also seems very elegant, almost as an angel appearing to be floating.
