The Imperial Japanese government created this propaganda poster during the Second Sino-Japanese War. This poster’s message sending to the audience is straightforward and strong, which is encouraging Chinese civilians to fight or stand against the communist party in China.

People in the poster are holding different signs and slogans such as “Have complete confidence in the Japanese Army (絕對信任日軍)”, “Down with the Guomindang army (打倒黨軍)”, “Down with the communist party (打倒共產黨)”, etc. These people are yelling, showing aggressive emotions, all marching to the right as if they are protesting.

Apparently, this poster was not as compelling nor convincing as the Imperial Japanese government anticipated. Because in 1938, the infamous, ruthless, and violent Nanking Massacre had done irreparable damage to China and the Chinese people. Just like how Jewish people would react to Nazi Germany propaganda, there’s no way that Chinese people would “have complete confidence in the Japanese Army” or believe in any pro-Japanese demonstration.

Despite its political background, this poster can be stimulating due to the use of bright colors and simple structured composition that focus on the people.
