This gilt bronze statue is a Buddha standing on a lotus flower base or throne. It is comparatively unique because most statues of Buddha portray him as sitting on the lotus. Despite that difference, the lotus flower is one iconic and important element in Buddhism. The lotus flower symbolizes the purity and holiness of the Buddha, who was first born on earth among other livings and then became someone more divine.

The Buddha is reaching his hand out as if he’s touching or pointing at something or someone. This gesture can be a strong sign of “telling you to stop”. On the other hand, this gesture can also imply the Buddha is inviting or comforting someone. The truth and the intention of the creator of this statue might remain hidden forever, just like all those myths behind Buddha himself.
